So yesterday and today AJ and I ventured to the Monster Mania Convention in Cherry Hill, NJ.
We left my house around 2:00, and made a stop to McDonalds, causing our arrival time at our hotel in Philadelphia to be around 4:00. We get to the hotel, ready to check in... to be shot down by the words, "Okay, we'll call you when the next room is available."
What?
Last time I checked, when someone makes a reservation, it means that the room will be ready when they arrive. So AJ and I waited in the lobby impatiently for about half an hour, just to be told that I was not allowed to check in, because I am not 21.
You're kidding me, right?
I called my mom, and the woman at the desk was incredibly snotty to me, but then the manager came, and let us check in, and gave us a $20 voucher for breakfast.
We went to the room to change... to find that I had forgotten my fake blood in my bathroom at home! I was so upset about it!!!
I threw together a costume, and blacked my eyes (see below pix) and we were off to the con.
We got there at 6:30 and went in search of Ms. Quinn... to find autographs had ended at 6:00... I was incredibly dissappointed, and we walked around to find the Saw Q&A was going on. It was very funny and cool, and Tobin Bell's voice is just as creepy in person as it is over a tape recorder in Saw...
After that, we ran to get a bite to eat before Crispin Glover's presentation, then hopped on line to get seats. While in line, a family warned us that it was very offensive and fucked up... I took it with a grain of salt, because I mean, it's George McFly... how weird could he be?
Yeah. He read 8 of his books by a Power Point presentation, then showed us his film, What Is It?
It was blatent exploitation of mentally and physically challenged people, racism, and just... fucked up things. I understand being "artsy"... but seeing a challenged man, naked, inside a clam getting jerked off by a naked woman in a monkey mask while another naked woman wearing an elephant mask lay "dead" on the ground, and other women in monkey suits sat on the ground and ate watermellon while Crispin sat on a throne, looking at pictures of Shirley Temple with Swatstikas everywhere. There was also an image of Shirley Temple nude with a riding crop sticking into her vagina...
What the fuck?
We left during the Q&A to see the Rocky Horror people assembling with none other than.... Patricia Quinn! I looked at her in awe as she mingled with cast members and people getting ready to be in the audience... and she kind of reminded me of a crazy grandma figure. Like... do you know when kids are doing the "don't step on the hot lava" thing when there is a pattern on a floor? She was walking around, only stepping on the spots on the carpeting. It was really funny.
Crispin finally came out around 12:30 to sign autographs and was incredibly rude to the event people. He signed my poster and I took a picture with him. As creepy as he is... he's still George McFly to me.
We then took our seats in the back row (insert callout here) and saw the preshow for Rocky, which was Chicago's We Both Reached For The Gun, but on the screen there was an edited version of all 3 Saw movies put together and Brad had the "Saw Puppet" (another cast member) on his knee. It was great. And Pat Quinn introduced the movie. We left early, though, because we were completely exhausted.
We went to get breakfast this morning with our $20 voucher to find that we would still have to pay another $12 for our breakfast since it's $16 per person.
Yeah fucking right.
We then checked out, and went to Friendly's then back to the con.
Patricia Quinn was first on my list to meet, and she was completely AWESOME! She talked to AJ and I about how she would have rather there been a bunch of casts than just the one that was there last night... and she said their Janet was way too bubbly. She liked my Columbia tailcoat, and loved AJ's "Wedding Scene" costume, and laughed when AJ told her how I was afraid to talk to her last night, and said, "Oh don't be daft darling!" She was so friendly and awesome... I was completely starstruck from the second we first caught sight of her last night, until I said good-bye to her today.
Afterwards, we went to see Emily Perkins from Ginger Snaps (she took a picture of us!) and then I met Shawnee Smith (Amanda from Saw) and we talked about needles and she took a picture of us, too.
I noticed the Contact Lense booth... and I had to look... there were purple cateyes! I needed them. So I ran out to my car to grab my credit card... to find out... it was declined.
What the fuck, again?
I checked my balance on the nearest ATM to find... I had $6.25 in my account... this couldn't be... since I should have had about $200 in my account... I went into panic, but then realized, they accidentally charged my debit card for the room before I paid cash... so I have to call my bank Tuesday (damn you Presidents Day!) to get things straightened out (if they're not already). I also saw Henrique ("I'll take the red car!") and we bs-ed with him alot.
I bought a Haute Tension (high tension) shirt, and a catgirl necklace aside from my autographs...
And it snowed alot on the way home.
But now... pictures!
( I'd like to play a game... )
